Cherryโ€™s Wind is part of my ongoing series of classical-shaped vases, reimagined through painting. The work is inspired by Japonisme, a period that shaped artists such as Van Gogh, Monet, and Degas, and whose influence continues to echo within contemporary artistic practice.

This piece grew out of a visit to Washington, DC. During cherry blossom season, Constitution Gardens becomes a shared space: a moment when the city slows, people gather, and the energy of early spring carries through the landscape.
The blossoms are painted in thick layers of slip, giving the surface a sculptural, tactile quality that suggests the movement of wind. Playful shifts in scale create rhythm across the vase, while hidden scenes emerge behind the flowering trees, gradually revealing themselves as the viewer moves around the form.
